In one of the least surprising developments ever, filmmaker Woody Allen delivered some slippery-slope comments about Harvey Weinstein over the weekend. Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women on Social and in articles published by The New York Times and The New Yorker, leading to his ouster from the eponymous movie studio he co-founded and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Few have wanted to associate with Weinstein since, and he has been widely denounced. But Allen—who was once accused of sexual abuse and later married his stepdaughter—could only find it in himself to half-heartedly condemn Weinstein before flipping the script. “Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that his life is so messed up. There’s no winners in that,” Allen said in an interview with the BBC. He added, “You also don’t want it to lead to a witch hunt atmosphere, a Salem atmosphere, where every guy in an office who winks at a woman is suddenly having to call a lawyer to defend himself.” His attempts at clarifying those remarks didn’t go any better. Over the last two days, “Twitter: Woody Allen” has an 82 percent negative score. –Alex Shultz
