It’s Not Just Trump Who’s Unpopular. ‘Trumpism’ Is, Too Donald Trump’s rise to President of the United States has spawned plenty of think pieces and poly-sci analyses, including the term “Trumpism,” which labels as “the nontraditional political philosophy and approach espoused” by POTUS. In truth, the expression means different things to people of differing political views. For instance, in July 2015, then-presidential candidate and now-Energy Secretary Rick Perry had this to say: “[Trump] offers a barking carnival act that can be best described as Trumpism, a toxic mix of demagoguery, mean-spiritedness and nonsense that will lead the Republican Party to perdition if pursued." Safe to assume Perry's current definition might now be a little more favorable to his boss. Supporters argue that the main tenet of Trumpism is an “America first,” anti-illegal-immigration stance. Some of Trump’s biggest supporters over the last few years, like Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Senior Adviser Stephen Miller (once an aide to Sessions), have been pushing that message. But over the last 90 days, “Trumpism” has a 30 percent positive score on Social, with words driving the Vibe like “uncomfortable,” “hostility” and “destroying.” That’s an even lower showing than Trump himself, who has a 32 percent positive score over the same time period. --Alex Shultz
