President Trump’s peculiar interest in Time magazine apparently spurred the hanging of fake magazine covers at some of his golf clubs. The Washington Post reported this week that at least four of his 17 clubs had at some point decorated their walls with a “March 1, 2009,” issue proclaiming, “The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” The only problem is that there was no issue on that supposed date, according to a Time spokesperson. In fact, shortly after the publication of the Post story, Time formally requested that the Trump Organization take down the phony covers. Trump’s disdain for the media at large is well known at this point, but he’s always had a soft spot for Time. As the Post notes, Trump bragged about having more cover appearances than anyone during a meeting at the CIA, of all places, in January. That wasn’t actually true, but it seemed to mean a great deal to the President. Over the last three days, “Trump + Time Magazine + Cover” has just an 18 percent positive score on Social.
