President Donald Trump told Americans he would teach China and other American trade partners a lesson when he launched tariffs for what he characterized as unfair trade practices. Now it looks as though Trump may be the one getting schooled. The President has seen pushback from Congress on tariffs against Canada, Mexico, and the European Union, while Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Tex.) has urged Trump to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping as soon as possible to end the trade war. According to The Washington Post, Chinese regulators have already started making things difficult for American importers, and Beijing has said that the Chinese government is prepared to respond with more tariffs of its own unless Trump backs off. Online, the conversation has turned against the President, with 77 percent of social media users expressing negative opinions about the burgeoning trade war. Retaliation by China and U.S. allies weighs heavily on Social's mind, and many are wondering what the true cost of tariffs may be. –Hugo Guzman
