President Trump’s attack on Nordstrom has been lambasted on Social and might have put one of his top advisors in a precarious position. On Wednesday, Trump tweeted, “My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” The department store chain quickly issued a response, saying it had recently dropped Ivanka’s clothing line “based on performance,” not politics. Trump’s tweet raises questions about whether it’s ethical for the President to get involved in his daughter’s business endeavors and to use his bully pulpit to bully a company and perhaps negatively affect it. On Thursday, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway took the less subtle route during a Fox News interview, telling viewers to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff.” That spurred a response from Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, who said Conway’s sales pitch was “unacceptable.” Unlike some Trump controversies, this one might stick around for a while, which isn’t good news for the President or Conway: 77 percent of Social holds a negative opinion of “Trump + Nordstrom.”
