Although he has long hinted that he would end the Iran Deal, President Donald Trump instead opted for a lesser measure on Friday—not certifying the agreement. That still angered America’s allies and Iran all the same. In a scathing speech directed at his predecessor, Barack Obama, and more specifically Iran, Trump said the deal was “one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into,” but it was essentially what he was stuck with. And while Iran has upheld its end of the bargain not to develop nuclear weapons, Trump argued the country hasn’t honored the “spirit” of the arrangement. He doused more gasoline on the situation by noting, “Given the regime’s murderous past and present, we should not take lightly its sinister vision for the future.” Trump’s lack of certification doesn’t void the Iran Deal, but it does put the onus on Congress to choose whether to re-impose sanctions. Trump also indicated he wanted to more clearly define the terms with which he would yank the U.S. out of the deal entirely, which to many sounded like the onset of a re-negotiation. But The New York Times reports that Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, said his country would consider ‘no amendment whatsoever.’" Over the last day, “Trump + Iran Deal” has a 19 percent positive score on Social. --Alex Shultz
