The GOP has just under a week to pass its tax bill, and things aren’t looking good. A handful of holdouts, like Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) have announced that they oppose the tax reform legislation, which promises a bevy of cuts for corporations and the wealthy while slashing deductions for student loans and healthcare bills. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has also complained that the bill favors large companies over individuals, and with two holdouts, one more defector could spell disaster for the Republicans, who are desperate for a win after getting trounced in some recent elections, such as the widely watched race for the governorship of Virginia. It’s a good thing for the GOP that Social can’t vote, because that would doom the tax plan as it stands. On Twitter, the Senate tax bill pulls 77 percent negative sentiments over the past week, and Social is urging Congress to put the embattled bill out of its misery. –Hugo Guzman
