Climate change may be warming up the oceans, but the water EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt finds himself in is downright hot – and Social is fanning the flames. Pruitt, initially unpopular online for his climate-change denial, is now catching flak because of his spending habits. On Thursday, Reuters reported that Pruitt spent $45,000 in taxpayer dollars on preparations for an Australia trip that never happened. That same day, The Washington Post revealed that the White House sent Office of Management & Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to investigate a $43,000 soundproof booth installed in Pruitt's office (Maxwell Smart, where are you?). According to PBS, EPA Inspector General Arthur Elkins has launched his own audits into Pruitt’s full-time security detail. Although the investigations have just begun, social media has already made up its minds about the spendthrift administrator, with Pruitt seeing 85 percent negative opinions online. There's no telling whether those opinions will translate to Pruitt’s dismissal, though. President Donald Trump said earlier this month on Twitter that Pruitt's spending was more than his predecessor but that it was outweighed by the billions his policies have saved the government. "Scott is doing a great job," Trump said on Apr. 7. –Hugo Guzman
