Despite President Trump’s best efforts to sabotage Obamacare and his insistence that the Affordable Care Act is dying, the law is actually more popular than ever before. Even though the Obamacare enrollment period has been slashed to half of its previous length and there are significantly fewer ads telling Americans when and how to sign up for the program, neither has been a major deterrent thus far. As New York Magazine notes: “601,462 people had enrolled in the Affordable Care Act’s individual marketplaces during the first four days of open enrollment, up 79 percent from the same period a year ago. Twenty-three percent of those customers are new to the marketplace.” After the multiple failed repeal-and-replace attempts by congressional Republicans in recent months, the public at large appears to be taking a new look at what it wants out of its healthcare. Last week in Maine, voters supported a measure to expand Medicaid coverage by a large margin, despite the objections of Republican Governor Paul LePage. Over the last seven days, Obamacare has a 41 percent positive score on Social -- a major jump from past numbers, which typically floated in the 20 percent range. –Alex Shultz
