A close association with President Donald Trump doesn’t seem to be much of a plus for anyone’s Social sentiment score, but Vice President Mike Pence may be earning his 64 percent negatives without any help from his boss. That’s right around where Trump himself sits on Social, and it’s all due to questions about Pence’s Russian involvement. They dragged the Veep down to 92 percent negatives back in June. Before that, he was at 72 percent negative, so in many ways, Pence has recovered quite a bit of lost ground. He’s putting that rebound in public good will to good use, according to The New York Times, which last weekend alleged that Pence has started approaching GOP donors and building a network for 2020 in case Trump doesn’t run. Pence denounced the article and told reporters that he was focused on making sure the Trump train continues to run well into the next decade. But if it happens to go off the rails, Pence has his engineer hat handy. –Hugo Guzman
