Uber is still the ride-sharing king in terms of valuation, but it lags far behind second-place competitor Lyft in terms of likability. Over the last 30 days, Lyft has a respectable 62 percent positive score on Social, compared with just 25 percent positive for Uber. Both apps announced plans this week to launch across the state of New York on June 29 (they already operate in New York City), but that’s where any semblance of remotely good press ends for Uber. On Wednesday, it fired 20 Uber employees after an investigation into sexual harassment allegations. Eric Alexander, president of business in Asia, who “obtained the medical records of a woman who was raped by an Uber driver in India,” according to The New York Times, was also shown the door after Recode inquired about his status following the dismissals. Meanwhile, The Economist reports that “Lyft’s market share in America has risen from 18% five months ago to 25% now” in large part due to customer uneasiness about Uber. If that keeps up, there might be a new ride-sharing king sooner than anyone imagined
