Within a matter of hours last Thursday, The New York Times and The Washington Post published stories containing allegations of sexual misconduct against comedian Louis CK and Alabama Republican senatorial candidate Roy Moore. The Times interviewed five women who said Louis CK subjected them to unwanted sexual advances, including, on multiple occasions, masturbating in front of them. Rumors about the comedian’s behavior had swirled for years, though he dismissed them when publicly questioned. This time around, he admitted they were true, but remarkably, his mea culpa didn’t feature the word “sorry” or “apologize.” His latest film, I Love You, Daddy, was pulled by its distributor shortly before its intended release date, HBO is scrubbing his specials from its on-demand list and the FX network has severed its relationship with him. Meanwhile, the Post story accused Moore of molesting a 14-year-old girl when he was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney. It featured on-the-record interviews with the accuser, plus three other women who were between ages 16 and 18 when they say a then-thirtysomething Moore asked them out on dates. Despite more than 30 sources corroborating the on-the-record interviews with the four women, Moore has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. Some Republicans such as Mitt Romney have said they believe Moore’s accusers and have called on the former judge to withdraw from the special Senate election next month. But other Republicans, including Breitbart chief Steve Bannon, are saying that the Post is out to smear the far-right maverick. Over the last three days, Louis CK has a 28 percent positive score on Social. Moore has a 25 percent positive score, with four times the volume of responses compared with Louis CK. –Alex Shultz
