The NBA All-Star break isn’t even here yet, and the New York Knicks’ season is already on life support. The team is bad enough—it’s 22-33, currently 12th in the Eastern Conference. But as is the case with any downtrodden New York sports franchise, the Knicks are dysfunctional for reasons that go beyond their record. Most recently, owner James Dolan drew the ire of fans for banishing former enforcer Charles Oakley from Madison Square Garden. Oakley has a contentious history with Dolan and tried to attend a game last week before being kicked out by security guards. Meanwhile, General Manager Phil Jackson brought in a mish-mash of high-profile players like Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah in the offseason, and Rose in particular has had trouble adjusting to his new surroundings. In January, the former MVP disappeared prior to a game, later citing a family issue that needed his attention. He was fined $200,000. Jackson has also subtly but publicly criticized Carmelo Anthony, which many have interpreted as a way to try to persuade Anthony to leave town; he has a no-trade clause and would need to expressly agree to any proposed deal. All the chaos combines to give the team Social’s version of a Bronx Cheer -- 31 percent positives on 30dB.
