Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway can’t stop getting in trouble for her TV appearances. Last year, she was scolded by the Office of Government Ethics after telling Fox News viewers to buy products from Ivanka Trump’s clothing line. The Trump Administration took no action. This week, the Office of Special Counsel (no, not the Robert Mueller one) released a report saying that Conway has also managed to violate the Hatch Act twice during the hotly contested Alabama special election last December for the Senate seat Jeff Sessions vacated to become Attorney General. The Hatch Act, the OSC reminded, “restricts employees from using their official government positions for partisan political purposes.” According to the report, in two different TV appearances, “she impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election." The Office of Special Counsel doesn’t issue punishments but noted that it was sending a letter to President Trump to let him decide on disciplinary action. And in a not at all surprising development, POTUS appears to be opting for absolutely no penalty. The White House released a statement that read, in part: “Kellyanne Conway did not advocate for or against the election of any particular candidate .… In fact, Kellyanne’s statements actually show her intention and desire to comply with the Hatch Act.” Over the last 90 days, Kellyanne Conway has a 29 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
