On the campaign trail, Donald Trump promised a much harsher approach to deporting undocumented immigrants than President Obama’s, and so far, he’s keeping to his word. Trump signed an Executive Order on Jan. 25 that allows ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to target any immigrant previously charged with a crime. That includes people who re-entered the U.S. illegally or those who have used fake Social Security numbers to gain employment. The Obama administration—which deported more than 2 million people in eight years—prioritized removing immigrants with violent felonies or more than three misdemeanors, according to Politico. Trump has given ICE officials permission to go after any undocumented individuals they happen to come across during a raid for another target. That’s resulted in cases like 23-year-old Daniel Ramirez Medina’s, a Seattle resident protected by DACA who was detained during a search for his father last week. Over the last seven days, as Trump’s EO has been put into action, Social has pushed back vigorously: just 14 percent of users have a positive opinion of “immigration raids.”
