Silicon Valley is often seen as the capital of white maleness. Companies such Microsoft and Google have led the charge against that perception with diversity initiatives, but that's left some coders and engineers disgruntled. On Friday a “manifesto” released by a Google engineer stunned the tech world by raging against diversity in the workplace and calling for those initiatives to end. It also claimed that the gender gap wasn't necessarily representative of sexism and that conservatives should be empowered to express themselves. Social looked askance at the rant, and while Google still trends high, the manifesto gets 81 percent negative sentiments. Social cried for justice, and on Monday, Google delivered. CEO Sundar Pichai denounced the memo, saying that although he agreed that intellectual diversity is important, no Google employee has the right to make another feel inadequate because of their biological traits. The manifesto’s author, who was shown the door, is now being hailed as a free-speech hero in some quarters and has vowed legal action. –Hugo Guzman
