A little more than two months after the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Social is holding steady with its support of the smartphone. Although updated figures haven’t been released, by May the S8 had already sold more than 5 million units internationally, proving the company has successfully navigated past a Galaxy Note 7 recall after multiple incidents in which the phones caught fire. During that public relations nightmare, Samsung’s earnings went tumbling. Lucky for the tech giant, Social’s approval ratings for the S8 are at a solid 72 percent over the last two weeks. Perhaps hoping to take advantage of that change in public opinion, Samsung appears to be floating rumors that the debut of the Galaxy Note 8 is imminent. As the successor to the model best known for exploding in some users’ pockets, the Note 8 will be a tougher sell to consumers. According to the buzz, the model will be only slightly larger than the S8 Plus, and it will also be one of the most expensive smartphones ever made, according to VentureBeat. In fact, one report suggests the price tag could top $1,000. Forbes contributor Ewan Spence claims that “Samsung is ignoring critical feedback around Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus and is set to carry on with an awkward design choice.” Still, given the way the S8 is selling, whenever the Note 8 makes its way to the market (likely August or September), there may be plenty of Samsung lovers willing to give it a shot.
