“Fortnite: Battle Royale” is taking over the gaming world. It’s been released on every major gaming console (with cross-platform support except on the PlayStation 4), in addition to its accessibility on PCs, Macs, iPhones, and—very soon—Android phones. Already, more than 125 million people around the globe have taken part in the “Fortnite” phenomenon, and the game brings in roughly $300 million per month. Some entrepreneurial spirits have taken advantage of the craze, and as a recent Wall Street Journal piece reported, they have begun marketing themselves as “Fortnite” coaches who charge by the hour to help a mostly child-oriented clientele improve their abilities. Some kids have complained that they’re getting bullied for not being good enough, and that may be encouraging parents to pay for lessons. A bit unusual, to be sure, but considering the increasing prominence of eSports, and “Fortnite’s” recent announcement of a $100 million prize pool for tournaments, it’s not all that shocking. Fox News has come down against the idea in an opinion piece headlined: “‘Fortnite’ coaches?! – Will we ever have the courage to let our kids fail at something?” Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) was also displeased, tweeting: “Dear addicted gamers and your parental enablers. This is stupid. Get offline, go outside, talk to humans, or read a book.” But over the past 90 days, “Fortnite Coach” has a 78 percent positive score on Social. –Alex
