Marshall Mathers (better known as Eminem) has never shied away from social justice issues. From his early work drawing attention to the brutality of the Detroit streets, to his come-to-Jesus moment on gay rights with best bro Elton John, Eminem has always ranked among the most socially aware rappers. Case in point, his latest promo takes white privilege and racial profiling to task, and Social is loving it. Titled “Untouchable” and featuring sampling from a Cheech & Chong number, the new track dropped on Friday to rave reviews online, with Social giving it 86 percent positive sentiments. These results are likely to be bolstered by fans who have waited years for Em’s comeback. Critics aren’t necessarily on-board with “Untouchable,” however. Pitchfork compared the track to Macklemore’s “flawed” approach to teaching white people about privilege through rap music. “If Eminem wants to embrace some other righteous causes, that’d be worth celebrating,” Pitchfork’s Marc Hogan wrote. “But here the ultimate formalist is on point and off form.” –Hugo Guzman
