The Dallas Cowboys’ best season since 2007 ended on Sunday with a crushing 34-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers, but it’s safe to say there isn’t much buyer’s remorse about their decision to stick with Dak Prescott at quarterback. The rookie took the starting job in the preseason after Tony Romo suffered a back injury against the Seattle Seahawks, and he never relinquished it. In Dallas’s divisional round defeat, Prescott was hardly to blame, finishing with 302 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception on 24-of-38 passes. He erased a 15-point fourth- quarter deficit and tied the game with 35 seconds remaining, but it wasn’t enough against the far more experienced Aaron Rodgers. Romo, meanwhile, has been nothing but professional on the sidelines. During the regular season, Romo held a press conference in which he officially conceded the job to his successor, saying, “I'm not going to allow this situation to negatively affect Dak or this football team by becoming a constant distraction. I think Dak knows that I have his back.” For that, Romo has earned the respect of his hometown, though it hasn’t necessarily translated to Social: 43 percent of users hold a positive opinion of him, compared with 58 percent for Prescott. After Romo is inevitably traded this offseason, perhaps we’ll get a chance at a Prescott vs. Romo matchup to find out who the better quarterback is once and for all.
