Over the past year, Chris Christie’s fortunes and standing with the public have been deflating faster than a beach ball on a bayonet. Christie acted as an attack dog and coat-holder for candidate Trump, but his vice-presidential aspirations were dashed, he was kicked out as campaign transition chief and he watched as associates went to jail in the Bridgegate scandal. This summer the lame-duck New Jersey governor (his term ends next year) was caught enjoying a day at a beach that had been closed to the public because of a state budget impasse. If Beachgate wasn’t enough, at a Brewers-Cubs game over the weekend, a fan recorded footage of Christie inches away from the face of a man in a Cubs jersey, sarcastically telling the man he was a “big shot.” Christie later told CNN the Cubs fan had cursed at him and his son, and after a second insult, Christie felt he had no choice but to respond. That appears to have been the wrong decision. “Chris Christie + Baseball Game” triggers a sentiment on Social that’s even lower than the governor’s 15 percent approval rating—just four percent of users have a positive opinion of the phrase over the last three days. --Alex Shultz
