Unsurprisingly, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are garnering low ratings on Twitter in the aftermath of last weekend’s government shutdown, but it’s Sen. Schumer who’s getting more criticism. After a continuing resolution wasn’t agreed upon last Friday, conservatives dubbed the impasse the “Schumer Shutdown,” which seemed to stick even though Republicans control the White House and Congress. By Monday, Schumer had agreed to a continuing resolution that re-opens the government until Feb. 8 in exchange for McConnell’s “intention” to negotiate a legislative solution to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program –DACA for short -- a move that infuriated progressives who don’t trust the Majority Leader. Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) said, “This shows me that when it comes to immigrants, Latinos and their families, Democrats are still not willing to go to the mat.” The vote in the Senate to end the shutdown was 81-18, and some of the notable no votes include potential 2020 presidential candidates like Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.). Over the last day, @SenateMajLdr McConnell has a 43 percent positive score on Twitter, while @SenSchumer has a 35 percent positive score. –Alex Shultz
