For the umpteenth time, Lena Dunham is apologizing and backtracking about something she said. Last week, Girls Executive Producer Murray Miller was accused of sexual assault by actress Aurora Perrineau, who filed a police report as well. Miller and his attorney denied the allegation, saying he has “overwhelming evidence” to disprove Perrineau’s claims, and apparently that was enough for Dunham to rush to the defense of one of the show’s chief writers. She and Girls showrunner Jenni Konner issued a statement in which they said they believe women coming forward about improper sexual behavior, but they also don’t believe this woman, writing: “While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year.” A couple days later came the inevitable apology: "I naively believed it was important to share my perspective on my friend's situation. I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry," Dunham wrote on Twitter. Too little, too late. Writerr Zinzi Clemmons announced that “as a result of Lena Dunham’s statements,” she would no longer work for Dunham’s website, Lenny Letter. And over the last three days, @LenaDunham has just a 29 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
