Adele’s album of the year award at the Grammy’s has reignited a near-annual debate over the decision-making process used to pick winners. Many felt Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” was more worthy of the honor than Adele’s “25”—Adele included. “I can’t possibly accept this award. And I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful and gracious. But my artist of my life is Beyoncé,” Adele said during her acceptance speech. Beyoncé has now been nominated for album of the year three times and has lost to Taylor Swift, Beck, and Adele. A white artist has won album of the year 12 consecutive times, also beating the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar. Adele’s heartfelt speech, likable personality, and insane singing chops have spared her from facing significant blowback. On Social, 85 percent of users have a positive opinion of her, which is actually higher than Beyoncé’s 74 percent. Granted, some of Bey's lower numbers are fans expressing their disappointment.
