A highly unusual start to the NCAA tournament knocked out some of the heavy favorites in the field, but Social is still pumped about what’s to come. Among the carnage was arguably the biggest upset in the history of March Madness, with the top overall seed, the Virginia Cavaliers, falling to the No. 16 UMBC Retrievers, 74-54. It was the first time ever that a No. 1 seed lost to a No. 16 seed. Fellow No. 1 seed Xavier lost in its second-round matchup to Florida State, 75-70, meaning there are only a few of the original title contenders left in the Sweet 16. In the East bracket, No. 1 Villanova will face No. 5 West Virginia, and No. 2 Purdue will take on No. 3 Texas Tech. The Midwest bracket still pits No. 1 Kansas against No. 5 Clemson, and No. 2 Duke against No. 11 Syracuse. Out of the eight remaining teams from the South and West, the University of Michigan is the highest-ranked as a three-seed. After UMBC fell in round two, No. 11 Loyola-Chicago has assumed the role of the tournament’s Cinderella, with a real shot to advance to the Elite 8 if it can defeat No. 7 Nevada. Over the last day, #Sweet16 has an 80 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
