It’s been a year since the murder of Heather Heyer, a counter-protestor who was allegedly killed by a neo-Nazi during a rally of racists in Charlottesville, Va. In the ensuing weeks and months, many thought that President Trump repeatedly bungled his response to that violence, famously saying there were “very fine people on both sides” of the Charlottesville conflict. On Sunday, the white supremacists who led last year’s demonstration, including Jason Kessler and David Duke, spoke at a Unite the Right rally in Washington, D.C., close to the White House. The event turned out significantly more counter-protestors than actual participants. Given a full 12 months to reflect on his earlier statements and denounce the alt-right hanging out in his backyard, the President tweeted: “The riots in Charlottesville a year ago resulted in senseless death and division. We must come together as a nation. I condemn all types of racism and acts of violence. Peace to ALL Americans!” Over the past 30 days, “White Supremacy” has a surprisingly high 32 percent positive score on Social. Propping up that number are people pointing the "support" finger at others, with POTUS taking the poll position as evidenced by Trump being the second most frequently mentioned related topic with white supremacy. –Alex Shultz
