If the medal count at the Winter Olympics were its own competition, the United States wouldn’t have made the podium this year. The Americans finished fourth overall at the 2018 games in Pyeongchang with 23 medals, a performance that’s actually fairly par for the course in Team USA’s history. It’s won the most medals at a Winter Olympics just twice—2010 and 1932—and the latter was the only time the team has taken the most golds. Still, Social is satisfied with what it saw at the 2018 games, thanks to some compelling personalities who emerged as stars. Figure skater Adam Rippon, for instance, gained newfound popularity in part because of his social media presence and must-watch interviews (Rippon also nabbed bronze in the team event). The U.S. found plenty of success in snowboarding, earning four golds in that category behind a pair of teens, Red Gerard and Chloe Kim, plus Shaun White and Jamie Anderson. Jessica Diggins and Kikkan Randall put on an inspiring show in the cross-country skiing competition, the men’s curling team earned a surprising first-place finish, and the women’s hockey team took down Canada to get revenge in a gold medal rematch from 2014. Over the past three days, #TeamUSA has an 83 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz   Image: Twitter / @USSkiTeam Source: 30dB.com - %23TeamUSA
