Few pollsters thought Donald Trump would prevail over Hillary Clinton, but he rocked their world back in 2016. Now, he's managed to deliver another shocker: a well-received immigration plan. Social media was initially surprisingly optimistic about the new plan, which was revealed on Thursday. The plan pulled 64 percent positive sentiments across social networks when it was released, pretty high considering that Trump's last few forays into immigration policy have contributed to historically low approval ratings for a first-year president. The positive reception for his proposal could be due to the fact that it would create a path to citizenship for 1.8 million people brought to the U.S. illegally as children. According to Politico, that's more than double the number enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The plan also requests $25 billion for the Mexican border wall, which has long been a point of contention for Democrats. However, the good times were short lived as opinion has slipped since the plan's release and now sits at 28 percent positive in social media today. Despite the drop Republicans are optimistic that the Dems will come around. “We can help to fix this problem once and for all,” White House legislative affairs director Marc Short said on Fox News Sunday. “So, yes, I think we are going to get widespread support on our side.” –Hugo Guzman
