The #MeToo crusade against sexual misconduct by people in power has ended another career on Capitol Hill. Rep. Elizabeth Etsy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that she won't seek re-election in the 2018 midterm elections after it was revealed that it took her three months to dismiss her chief of staff, who had threatened to kill a former colleague whom he had once dated. The Washington Post reported late last week that former Chief of Staff Tony Baker repeatedly harassed and once even punched subordinate Anna Kain, who eventually filed a restraining order against him. Rather than dismiss Baker at once, Etsy kept him on for three months and eventually negotiated a severance package that included a non-disclosure agreement, $5,000 in severance pay, and positive references for his next job. Etsy is the first female member of Congress to be felled by a workplace misconduct scandal. But although she won't be running later this year, social media users don't think that's enough, with 93 percent of the buzz around her in the red. Many online are demanding that Etsy not wait for the clock to run down before stepping aside. –Hugo Guzman, Image: Twitter / @RepEsty
