For almost 10 hours last Thursday, FBI agent Peter Strzok was grilled by congressional Republicans about anti-Trump text messages he penned before and after the 2016 election. Strzok has maintained that the messages—which were sent to fellow FBI agent Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair—represented his personal beliefs but had no influence on his work. The Inspector General’s report released last month came to the same conclusion, but that didn’t stop Republicans from alleging all sorts of conspiracies. Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), looking particularly wild-eyed, posed some of the most repetitious and theatrical questions, and House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte threatened Strzok with contempt after exactly one question had been asked. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) was responsible for the most cringeworthy moment, saying, "I can't help but wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocent into your wife's eyes and lie to her about Lisa Page?" In a recent CBS News interview, Trump said he watched “some” of Strzok’s testimony, which he called “a disgrace to our country.” Twitter also didn’t enjoy the hearings, but for different reasons. Over the past day, #StrzokHearing has a 29 percent positive score. The negative reaction is directed more at the circus atmosphere of the questioning rather than at Strzok himself, with words driving the Vibe like “a disaster,” “ridiculous,” and “obsessed.” –Alex Shultz
