President Donald Trump touted his diplomatic skills after what he called a successful meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but social media users have much different opinions. While Trump called the meeting "historic," Twitter users are feeling "furious" that the American President first took Putin’s word that Russian agents did not meddle in the 2016 presidential election despite repeated assertions by the U.S. intelligence community that Moscow tried to tip the scales against Hillary Clinton. Faced with a firestorm of criticism, Trump first said he “misspoke” and then muddied that message with other comments. One of the only things that seems clear is that while Trump and Putin may be a mutual admiration society, the online crowd holds the Kremlin in low esteem, with Russia racking up 71 percent negatives online. On Wednesday, Trump told CBS News, that he would hold Putin accountable for meddling in the election and that during the summit he made clear to the Russian leader that further manipulation would not be tolerated. But given all that has transpired, those assurances may not be worth a bucket of warm borscht. –Hugo Guzman
