For decades, Oregon has maintained laws requiring gas station attendants to pump gas for drivers. While the rule might seem silly to the rest of the U.S. (with the exception of New Jersey, which has the same requirement), Oregonians don’t know any other way. So when a new law recently went into effect allowing self-service at rural gas stations in counties with fewer than 40,000 residents, people in Oregon were not pleased—and Social couldn’t stop making fun of them for it. KTVL CBS 10 in Medford, Ore., made a Facebook poll asking readers if they supported the change, leading to comments like, “I don’t even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian…..I say NO THANKS! I don’t want to smell like gasoline!” The panic across the state ignored the fact that few gas stations in the rural areas seem intent on ushering in the self-service option, and even then, it’s just that: an option. Oregonians’ vehement dissent and the rest of the country rolling its eyes gives “Oregon + Gas” a 25 percent positive score on Social over the last seven days. –Alex Shultz
