Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) is picking a fight with former colleague and current Attorney General Jeff Sessions over a hazy subject: marijuana. Colorado legalized weed for recreational purposes in 2012, and despite Gardner’s initial opposition to decriminalization, he has since defended the move as a states’ rights issue. He says Sessions told him during the AG’s confirmation process that he wouldn’t rescind the Obama-era Cole Memo, which restricts federal interference against states that choose to allow marijuana use for recreational or medicinal purposes. But that’s exactly what Sessions and the Justice Dept. plan to do, so Gardner took to the Senate floor to rebuke this change of heart by the nation’s top prosecutor while threatening to put a hold on all of President Trump judicial nominees indefinitely. While Gardner’s motivations surely have something to do with his representation of a blue-ish state full of constituents he can’t afford to annoy too much, he’s still earning props for his stand. Over the last three days, @CoryGardner has a 50 percent positive score on Social, which is a solid mark for a sitting politician. –Alex Shultz
