In a tale as old as time, country star Shania Twain told the world how she really felt, then “apologized” after the ensuing public scrutiny put her in an awkward position. Twain is back in the spotlight a full 15 years since her last album and is out promoting her most recent EP, Now, in the lead-up to a summer tour. In an interview with The Guardian over the weekend, Twain, who can’t vote in the U.S. because she’s Canadian, was asked for her thoughts on Donald Trump. "I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest,” she said. That statement set off a firestorm and led to the inevitable backtracking. Twain apologized via tweets to anyone she offended and said the questions from her interviewer caught her “off guard.” She added, “I am passionately against discrimination of any kind and hope it’s clear from the choices I have made, and the people I stand with, that I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President.” Of course, that doesn’t exactly line up with saying she would vote for the man, and Social isn’t really buying her walk-back. Over the past seven days, “Shania Twain” has just a 38 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
