In 2017, Dear White People successfully launched as a series on Netflix three years after its debut as a major motion picture. And last Friday the show kicked off Season Two, which is mostly receiving praise. The Hollywood Reporter says, “Dear White People marks itself as a show that more people (and more critics) should be talking about, because few shows on TV feel as eager to instigate as many meaningful conversations.” To that end, the show is tackling pertinent topics like the rise in prominence of the alt-right, which is especially noticeable on college campuses. That’s still the setting -- the fictional Winchester College, which features the return of Logan Browning as Samantha White and Brandon P. Bell as Troy Fairbanks, plus the addition of Tessa Thompson as Rikki Carter (Thompson actually played the role of Samantha White in the original film). Rotten Tomatoes critics give Season Two a 100 percent fresh score, while the audience comes in at a 63 percent want to see. And over the past three days, “Dear White People” has a 65 percent positive score on 30dB, with words driving the Vibe such as “empowering,” “improves,” and “amazing.” –Alex Shultz
