The 60th annual Grammy Awards are set for next Sunday, and one of the more competitive races looks to be the Best New Artist category. Of the five finalists, three fall under the umbrella of R&B, with one rapper and one pop singer in the mix. Alessia Cara is Social’s top choice for the award: Her Twitter handle has an 85 percent positive score over the last 90 days. Cara is a crooner on major hits put out by Logic and Zedd within the last year, and she has five songs on Spotify with at least 270 million streams. There’s a jumbled mess amongst three other finalists—R&B singer Khalid has a 77 percent positive score, followed by Julia Michaels at 76 percent (she was formerly a successful songwriter for famous acts like Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber) and SZA is close behind at 75 percent. SZA’s album Ctrl established her as one of the most popular R&B singers in the world, especially after the success of her single “Love Galore.” Lil Uzi Vert is a rapper with a unique sound that has endeared him to a rapidly growing fan base, but he comes in last in this group, though still has a still-respectable 67 percent positive score. –Alex Shultz
