Roseanne Barr had a busy Tuesday on Twitter, which ultimately ended with her hit show Roseanne getting cancelled because of racist remarks that she blamed on the drug Ambien. It all began when Barr tweeted that Valerie Jarrett, a former senior advisor to President Obama and an African-American, is what would happen if the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes had a baby. That inexplicable post was enough to make ABC yank its top-rated program by lunchtime. Barr also managed to insinuate in a separate tweet that George Soros—a Jewish billionaire financier and philanthropist who was 13 years old when Germany occupied his home country of Hungary during World War II—is actually a Nazi sympathizer. After ABC canned Roseanne, which had been all set for a second season, Barr went silent, but only for a few hours. She returned to Twitter a short time later to alternate between apologies and bizarre defenses of her behavior, at one point writing, "Not giving excuses for what I did (tweeted) but I've done weird stuff while on ambien -- cracked eggs on the wall at 2am etc." Sanofi, the maker of Ambien, tweeted on Wednesday, “While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.” Over the last day, the handle @therealroseanne has a 13 percent positive score on Twitter. –Alex Shultz
