NBC has squeezed 14 seasons out of The Voice thus far, and based on the opening numbers of its latest iteration this week, a 15th season is a mere formality. Season 14 premiered on Monday with 12.31 million viewers -- that’s nearly 2 million more than the Season 13 opener, which had the smallest audience in the show’s history. The Voice’s ratings fluctuate in response to its panel of judges and the talent level of the competitors, and while it’s too early to decipher the latter, the former got a boost from the addition of pop star Kelly Clarkson. She joins returning members Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton, and the foursome have a new twist to deal with during the blind auditions called “the block.” It enables a judge to prevent someone else from recruiting a singer to their team, which has mainly affected Shelton early on, as his credentials usually give him a leg up with any country crooner in the field. Over the last day, #VoicePremiere has an 87 percent positive score on Twitter. –Alex Shultz
