Last January, President Donald Trump earned the enmity of Social by freezing immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Nationwide protests followed, and the so-called travel ban was batted around the courts until last December when the U.S. Supreme Court allowed it to go into effect while legal challenges proceed. Now the Trump Administration has launched another immigration initiative that's receiving a similar reaction online. Salvadoran immigrants, long shielded from deportation by the Temporary Protected Status designation, have had that protection stripped away. Salvadoran immigrants numbering between 200,000 and 250,000 (news reports differ) are now under threat of deportation by a September 2019 deadline, joining Nicaraguans and Haitians who are also no longer protected. Social is outraged, with the new policy receiving 91 percent negatives on 30dB. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said that things aren't as bad as they might seem for tSalvadorans who now face the prospect of going home. According to Nielsen, El Salvador has recovered from the deadly earthquakes in 2001 that led to the TPS designation, and the government there is prepared to accommodate the deported. –Hugo Guzman
